Antique Wood, Horn & Silver Karen Pipe, Thailand, EAP10

Antique Wood, Horn & Silver Karen Pipe, Thailand, EAP10

This very handsome pipe is from the Karen hill tribe people. It consists of a buffalo horn mouthpiece, a pure silver stem and a wooden bowl braced by pure silver rings. The Karen are mostly found in Burma and Thailand where they are the largest hill tribe group. They are known to seek harmony within their society and avoid conflict by trusting in the counsel of their elders. Both men and women could be seen smoking this style of pipe in the past, as illustrated in the last photo in the series. Today these pipes are rarely seen. It is masterfully crafted and in excellent condition. It has been mounted on a stand for display.
