Hmong Baby Carrying Cloth, par jeea look, Yunnan, TTA08
The Hmong are a colourful hill tribe people found living throughout Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Burma and Yunnan. Hmong mothers devote their finest skills to making these cloths for their babies. It resembles a bibbed apron and is made of two rectangular pieces of cloth joined together at the borders. This baby-carrying cloth, known in Laos as par jeea look is over 50 years old and is an impressive example of its kind. The embroidery is beautifully executed and the birds and flower motifs wonderfully cheeful. Apart from some minor fraying at a few seams and general fading and discoloration, it is in very good condition. These old Hmong textiles are full of character and make rich wall adornments.
