Loom Woven Silk Textile from Boutique Studio, Laos, LSS03
Representing the very finest in silk weaving, this piece is from a boutique silk weaving studio in Vientiane dedicated to this mesmerizing art form. The studio has played a significant role in reviving the tradition of silk weaving and taking it to a new level of mastery. This silk, which could be used as a runner or wall hanging, was woven on a traditional wooden loom using the finest silk in coffe and gold, taking over a week to complete. On this piece a diamond motif is surrounded by the two headed Naga, both very important symbols in Lao culture. The diamond is thought to attract good luck and ward of evil, while the Naga is a mythical serpent with magical powers said to protect the dharma (teaching of the Buddha) and assure fertility. The silk ends in fine knotted tassels.
Please note that the bamboo hanger is not included in the price of the silk but may be purchased for an additional US$20.
